Aseptic sampling is mandatory for any type of sample that will be subjected to microbiological testing. In aseptic sampling, it is essential to limit the risk of contamination of samples by tools or equipment used during sample collection. To do so, it is necessary to use sterile or disinfected tools and to apply a proven protocol to guarantee the best hygiene conditions and the quality of the collected sample.
Maximum effort must be made to prevent contamination of samples and thus reduce the risk of false test results. Indeed, the financial losses caused by contamination can be heavy, for example in the case of a false positive due to a non-sterile sampling, a confiscation of foodstuffs or a stop of production for a complete cleaning of the production line may be required.
